Silmon Sullivan - Groovin'

Groovin' is a solid freshman offering from Si Sullivan. The 10-track album features an interesting blend of original blues and choice cover selections, in a few different shades from the baritone vocalist and harmonica player. The songs are well-paced, lively examples of contemporary electric blues, and the backing band provides a tasteful and thoughtful foundation for Sullivan's expressive voice and soulful harmonica. In addition to the blues tracks, there's a soft-shoe, dance-band original called "Swing and Sway," the uptempo "Orange Blossom Special" and Si's own electro-boogie, "Funky Monkey Number One." Groovin' is a well-produced and energetic album, an excellent first effort from a new writer and performer on the Canadian blues scene.
